Wendell Thornton was born on September 8,1944, in Chattanooga, Tennessee, to Marion P. Church and Willard Thornton. Wendell was educated in the Chattanooga public school system. He was raised by his mother in Chattanooga, and while attending Howard High School, he relocated to Chicago, Illinois to live with his Father and Stepmother. While in Chicago, Wendell gained employment with the Palmer House Restaurant until he went off to serve in the military on July 21, 1966.He served faithfully for 3 years. Wendell also worked for J.I. Case in 1970 until the early 80’s. He was gainfully employed with J.I Case for 11 years! Wendell’s love for his family and friends was always displayed through his willingness to help and assist whenever needed. He especially enjoyed celebrating the Holidays with family. He was a kind, soft spoken, caring and compassionate man, to everyone he came in contact with! Wendell gave his life to Christ at an early age and in January 2025 he rededicated his life to the Lord. Wendell was preceded in death by his parents Marion P Church and Willard Thornton, two Sisters, Joanne Johnson and Beatrice Atkinson and one Brother, Alfred Rucker. He leaves to cherish his memory, two daughters and three sons. Wendy Mack, Shawnda McMurray (Blair), Torrance Thornton, Shawn Thornton and Brandon Thornton. He also leaves to cherish his memory five sisters Ramona Carter, Vanessa Foy (Warren), Melva Dawn Jackson (Gary), Carmen Verges (Robert), Deloris Lattimore and one brother Hezakiah Rucker (Charlene)Additionally, he leaves to cherish the memory of his love and affection, a host of nieces, nephews, grandchildren and great grandchildren
