Billy Edward Johnson
Sunrise July 29, 1988 - Sunset May 2025
Billy Edward Johnson, 36, peacefully transitioned on May 10, 2025. Born on July 29, 1988, at East L.A. Doctors Hospital in California, Billy was a remarkable soul who transformed every life challenge into an opportunity to spread joy.
Billy was "Joy Incarnate" - a title lovingly given by his oldest sister, Tina, that perfectly captured his extraordinary gift for finding light in any situation. He was affectionately known as BJ to the family. Throughout his life, Billy demonstrated an unshakeable commitment to happiness and an inspiring ability to rise above circumstances that might have discouraged others.
Billy graduated from Colony High School with an award for the Most Improved Student and was in Colony’s high school band. He attended UEI college and loved security work so much that his siblings teasingly called him ‘Top Flight Security of the World’. Billy loved to cook and was good at it. He was an amazing storyteller and would make you laugh before he got to the punchline of his story because of how much he enjoyed telling it. He was a performer and loved to sing, especially gospel music. He transformed potential limitations into sources of strength, working his way through high school to pay for his senior dues, and taught everyone around him about the power of unconditional self-acceptance. He leaves a legacy of triumph and support.
Billy loved God and created his own unique way of moving through the world. At one point, he taught small children at a Bible school. He chose joy over bitterness, acceptance over resentment, and love over fear. His charismatic personality drew people to him naturally. There was something magnetic about his genuine happiness that reminded others of life's simple pleasures.
Billy had a servant’s heart and was a great conversationalist. Through his example, he showed others that happiness is not dependent on external circumstances but is a choice we make each day. His life was a masterclass in resilience and service, demonstrating that true success lies not in what we accumulate but in how we choose to show up in the world for others.
Billy's journey reminds us to live a meaningful life through connection and love. He leaves behind a God-fearing mother and stepfather, Veronica and Randy Head. Two sisters, Betina and Tandra, who cherished him deeply. Supportive brothers, Trayvon and Larry. Nieces: Chisa, Tinasia, Brianna, Zaliyah, and Amber Joy. Nephews: Brian, Terran, Ameer, and Trayvon, Jr. A host of cousins, friends, and a world that was brightened by his presence.
"He chose joy, and in doing so, taught us all how to truly live."
